World’s oldest woman in Japan

The tiny village of Tōjiji in the Gifu Prefecture, where a woman named Yoko has been hanging out with her husband for over 4,000 years, was recently designated one of the world’s oldest villages to know this incredible honor. For centuries, women have resided on top of their husbands during the ancient times. Many of the women even used to be known as “Tomboys”. In these villages, there were over 50 graves of women who lived and died before they could join the menfolk of the village after childbirth and death.

Many of the ladies have died after marriage which is often quite tragic; however, there are many others who were able to live to great age such that some are still alive today. While many families around them were not open about burial wishes of their elders, some even chose to bury their dead wives and mothers. As time went by and more villagers joined the group of people living on top of the tomb of their deceased ancestors, it has led to better living conditions and social amenities such as wells, ponds, schools, hospitals, and a church. Due to these developments, the women now have access to medical care and also live longer lives than would otherwise be possible. Today, there are very few houses in the area as well as any other modern developments due to its old historical significance. The Tøji temple is located in the heart of the village about 50 meters from both the graveyard and village hall.

While most buildings in the town are built according to traditional Japanese architectural designs, there are some unique buildings constructed specifically for women such as a restaurant which used to belong to a school teacher, an opera theatre, and a museum by the name Nihon Shokin Museum. When entering the main building of the building, women can see portraits of former pupils at classes from various schools including some of the best students in the country’s history. One can also find photographs of famous male figures like Tokugawa Ieyasu, Kuroyoshi Ishikawa, and Katsumoto Fushimi. These two museums have been created specifically for the womenfolk of Tøji. A unique structure has been made for the house and a beautiful garden is growing behind it. At night, when the lights are being turned off to protect the night sky from the moonlight, people can enjoy the view through the beautiful glass windows.

The cemetery and its surrounding structures are well preserved and is surrounded by trees that allows for adequate air flow. On the outside wall of the cemetery, there are several rooms on the ground floor. Each room contains pictures depicting women who died before they could speak or take part in social activities. Some of them include Kigoku Yoshino, Takasago Higashino, Kasuga Koshiki, Hachishita Mori-Tanioka, and Yuko Kaneko-Hachiseko. All of these women died before even having children. They have all left behind numerous documents that show how important they were to their communities.

Some women died and survived long enough to be buried alongside their late parents. There is a girl called Hachishita Mori-Tanioka, who died at 20 years old. She was born under the roof of her home. Her father was killed by a sword and she had no chance to stand up to him. He had been hanged for robbery and she suffered from a mental illness. Despite this situation, she was able to finish high school and became a popular female student in the local community. Due to the fact that she never wanted to marry, she decided to become one of the first women to get married without a boy. However, she got hit by a horse, leaving no one to look after her as well as her unborn child. Since her mother was too busy taking care of his daughter, he put her to the side of the grave to die along with her unborn baby and their unborn child. This is what happens in the rest of the cemeteries of the people.

There are only 2 men remaining from the past lives of those women buried here. Their names are Toshio and Yoshihiro. Both of them have passed away quite young in the last 100 years. They lived extremely different lifestyles than the rest of the family members of the village. Toshio’s family was originally from Yokohama prefecture but had moved back to Gifu during his adult life. His grandfather had been murdered by his owner when he was just 3 years old. It seems like he did not have anyone that loved him enough to take his place and gave him to be taken care of by someone else. Even though his family owned a very large area, he never had anyone to offer him shelter. He died penniless and alone in front of the eyes of everyone, especially his wife. Fortunately, he had a son and his family could take care of themselves.

Yoshihiro lives in Tōji Village about a kilometer away from the cemetery and village hall. Once the emperor granted her permission to visit her resting place, she was able to see it and met Toshio. She is married to a man who was previously known as a farmer. He moved around the village after meeting his love interests. Eventually becoming part of the village’s landlady and then eventually worked in another store. After his wife died, he was given the job to manage the shop. Soon after his marriage, he joined together with his daughter to work together. Eventually the shop became bigger and was named Jinko. Unfortunately the business eventually closed down and his son came to manage it while he retired. Two days later, we got a message from them saying that they had been attacked and had lost more than fifty staff. Since then, the family hasn’t seen or heard anything from each other since. The shops and houses are now empty and everything is covered in weeds and grass.

The gravesite is quite small but large. The stones are carved as well as well as placed. Along with the stone, there is an engraving of three birds and a dragon. Inside the cave, there are four other graves, four animals on the right and two fish on the left. Also inside the cave are clay pots with black lines that say things like ‘Kunai No Sato’ (“My beloved Kunai No Sato’) and ‘Masakibun No Umarumi’ (‘my favorite kittiwake’). These pottery stones are all found and collected every year from visitors of the spot. Around the small pond that is inside the cave, there is a small flower whose flowers have dried. It looks like a small tree is blooming.

The cave was sealed at the time of this trip. A lot of visitors have been coming here and taking photographs and taking videos of themselves looking at the stones, making some photos and recording sound footage of the whole thing. Not only does it give a unique impression to the place, it’s something that isn’t common to see and appreciate.

The area is mostly isolated and it takes the path of least resistance to enter the cave. Aside from finding an entrance, getting a glimpse into what lies inside the cave and how much time passes with no ones around you, it is still rare to see a person who is actively playing around in the cave because of the dense vegetation and dirt. There isn’t even any water in the cave and the water is salty and there was once a stream that flows there but the creek is gone now. So, the only way to access the cave is to walk down the hill and climb the hillside. During the day, you can see a small area with light colored stones. It appears to be full of insects, crickets, crayfish, ants (not the real kind), frogs, and eels. At night, the rocks are blue and there are lots of stars in the sky. It’s almost pitch black and there aren’t any mosquitoes there because there is hardly any moisture in the rock.

The cave is relatively huge and large compared to the size of the tomb of the previous owners. Although the cave doesn’t look big, it is still spacious and has plenty of space for a person to lie down and relax. The other gravesite is also quite large and similar to both that, too. The grave is composed of white marble and the base is comprised of solid gold. The grave is decorated with small sculptures on both sides – each representing different aspects of the legend of the legendary woman from the village. To some extent, it resembles a small shrine because of the small sculptures. On the upper part of the wall, there is a statue of a snake and a bird. In front of the snakes and birds are small animal bones. There is a pair of flowers on either side of the grave and they resemble a dog and cat. On one side of the grave is a piece of paper with written messages that show how important this lady was for the village.

There are only two graves on the left and one is a replica of a ball of yarn. Another is of a doll of wood with ribbons that wraps around its neck similar to how the ball wraps around the head of a pig when we cut it. Behind the doll are sculptures of butterflies on the one side and spider webs on the other. It would appear like a miniature version of a giant spider. Behind the spider web are statues of little spiders and many small insects. Other statues show creatures like dragons and sphinxes. The one on the other hand represents a chicken and an eel. This one is the actual ball of yarn. The dead person is wearing a brown dress which shows the color red and white.
